DRAG COSTUME

WORKSHOP

For the first time ever, in collaboration with Harpy Fatale, we have created a drag themed Upcycling Workshop. We are inviting you, drag artists and performers, to transform costumes you’re not wearing anymore, or clothes/materials that need some extravagance into unique costumes to be worn in your next performance.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

This 4-hour workshop is designed for just 10 participants to keep it intimate and collaborative. All levels are welcome, everyone will be working on their own projects at their own pace. You’ll learn to look at your clothes and costumes with fresh eyes, discovering potential in every piece. We’ll focus on making the most out of  the materials we have and how to combine and play with them efficiently.

We’ll use techniques such as ruffles, pleats, gatherings, draping, creative patchwork, godets, and others that will allow you to elevate ordinary garments into extravagant showpieces that capture the essence of your drag persona.

Expect a relaxed and fun afternoon filled with fellow performers and artists, along with creative vibes, music, mimosas, and snacks. Part of the charm is the exchange of ideas, where everyone contributes to elevating each other's projects. It's all about collaborating, inspiring, and learning from one another in a supportive and creative environment.

MATERIALS

You need to bring costumes or clothes made with materials you love. You might be bored of them, don’t like the fit, could be broken or stained. Could also be accessories like belts, jewellery, trimmings, random pieces of fabric or other materials you have lying around.

No need to buy new things; the goal is to use what you already have in a creative way. I will also bring random material for everyone to use, and we can create a common pool of resources.

We’ll have 5 sewing machines available, but we encourage you to bring your own. This way, you can learn on your equipment, making the experience more tailored and effective. I’ll be there to provide all the tips and tricks to get you pro with your machine. Cutting and sewing tools like pins, chalk, scissors, needles, thread, etc. will be available for everyone to share. You’re also welcome to bring your own!
